About Freehold Borough:

Freehold Borough was originally known as a town and became independent of the township in 1888.  On April 15, 1919, Freehold was incorporated as a borough, including all of Freehold and additional portions of Freehold Township, on July 8, 1919. A former farm-trade and factory center, the borough is now a commercial hub surrounding Freehold Township and neighboring suburbs.

Downtown Freehold has so much for families and history enthusiasts. Its buildings are testaments to historic architecture, parks provide respite, events for families are plentiful from tours through concerts and an open-air talent show.

A potpourri of diverse shopping awaits you in Downtown Freehold! Antiques, gifts and specialty boutiques guarantee you will find something you treasure for yourself, your family, friends and co-workers. Downtown Freehold is known for featuring the county's fabled Restaurant Row. They cover numerous palates and gastronomic experiences: Asian-Fusion, Italian, authentic Mexican, Cajun and Caribbean, Portuguese, Middle Eastern, Colombian/Brazilian and good, old-fashioned American fare, including a historic diner.

Education:

Freehold Borough's public school for grades pre-K through 8 attend the Freehold Borough Schools (nearly 1400).  Schools in the district (with 2005-06 school enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics) are Freehold Learning Center Pre-K through grade 5 (515 students), Park Avenue Elementary School K - 5 (423 students) and Freehold Borough Intermediate School grades 6 - 8 (381 students).  Students in public school for grades 9-12 attend Freehold High School, as part of the Freehold Regional High School District. The Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) also serves students from Colts Neck Township, Englishtown, Farmingdale, Freehold Township, Howell Township, Manalapan Township, and Marlboro.

As of the census of 2000, there were 10,976 people, 3,695 households, and 2,571 families residing in Freehold Borough.  The population density was 5,501.1 people per square mile (2,118.9/ km2).
