Allenhurst was incorporated as a Borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 26, 1897, from portions of Ocean Township. The large Victorian and Tudor-Style homes, as well as the small-town America feel of the neighborhood today will impress visitors to Allenhurst. The beaches of Allenhurst are always pristine, and fabulous dining can be found within Allenhurst and the neighboring towns. In 2006, the borough of Allenhurst was ranked 131 in Forbes magazine’s list of the most expensive zip codes in the United States.
Acting as a non-operating district Allenhurst does not have any public schools of its own. Public school students from the Borough of Allenhurst attend the Asbury Park Public Schools in Asbury Park as part of a sending/receiving relationship in which a public school district sends some or all of its students to attend the schools of another district. Students attend Academy Charter High School in Lake Como, which accepts students on a lottery basis.
As of the census of 2000, there were 718 people, 285 households, and 188 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,750.6 people per square mile (1,066.2/ km2). There were 370 housing units at an average density of 1,417.4sq. mi (549.5/ km2). There were 285 households out of which 23.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them.
